Summary:

The presentation, Demystifying the Neuropsychological Evaluation, aims to equip clinicians with an understanding of neuropsychology, including the scope of services provided, indications for referral, and strategies to maximize the benefit of neuropsychological evaluation for both providers and clients.

This presentation, Supporting the Caregiver, explores how professionals can effectively support individuals caring for loved ones with dementia or related neurological conditions. It highlights the emotional and practical challenges caregivers face while providing strategies, tools, and community resources to help improve caregiver well-being and promote successful care outcomes.

Learning Objectives:

At the conclusion of this program, participants will be able to:

define neuropsychology and describe its role within clinical practice,
identify the unique benefits and contributions of neuropsychological evaluation in patient care,
outline best practices for referring to and collaborating with neuropsychologists to optimize outcomes for providers and clients,
identify the psychological, emotional, and practical challenges commonly experienced by caregivers of individuals with dementia and related neurological conditions,
apply evidence-informed communication and support strategies to improve caregiver coping, resilience, and engagement in care planning, and
use knowledge of community resources, referral systems, and supportive interventions to enhance caregiver functioning and quality of life.

Target Audience:

This program is open to all KAPA members and other interested mental health professionals who are not members. The content of this presentation is appropriate for mental health professionals educated at the graduate level in psychology, psychiatry, or other mental health related disciplines, as well as graduate students in a mental health related discipline.

Instructional Level:

The material will be appropriate to intermediate levels of practice and knowledge.

Continuing Education:

This program - when attended in its entirety - is available for 1.5 APA approved continuing education credits. With full attendance and completion of a Program Evaluation and Learning Assessment, a certificate will be issued. Partial credit will not be awarded. Participant's attendance will be verified via their Zoom login name and sign in / sign off time. Please assure that you are identifiable by your Zoom login name.

American Psychological Association Approval Statement:

The Knoxville Area Psychological Association (KAPA) is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for Psychologists. KAPA maintains responsibility for this program and its content.

Speaker Information:

Amber Rochette is a licensed psychologist and fellowship-trained clinical neuropsychologist practicing in Tennessee. She specializes in adult neuropsychology, with expertise in neurological and neurodegenerative disorders, such as Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, and stroke. Dr. Rochette is the owner of Knox Neuro, where she provides neuropsychological evaluations and psychology services to individuals 18 and older.

Sallie Gentry is a licensed clinical social worker based in Knoxville, Tennessee. She earned her undergraduate degree in Social Work from East Tennessee State University and her Master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Tennessee. With extensive experience in the field, Sallie has worked with diverse populations, yet her primary focus and passion lie in supporting caregivers. For over a decade, she has specialized in providing counseling, guidance, and education to individuals who care for or are affected by neurological disorders such as dementia, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis (MS), amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), and stroke. In addition to her private practice, where she offers counseling and supportive services in-person or via telehealth, Sallie serves as the Clinic Coordinator and Social Worker at the University of Tennessee ALS Clinic.
