Issues and Updates on Tennessee Laws and Rules that Govern the Practice of Psychology

Summary:
This presentation will cover updates on Tennessee’s statutes and rules for licensed psychological practitioners. The APA Ethics Code on Privacy and Confidentiality (Section 4) and Record Keeping and Fees (Section 6) will be discussed as it is incorporated into Tennessee law in these areas. This talk will describe the new licensing category for psychological testing technicians and the new path for licensure for experienced psychologists. Updates on how CE Audits are conducted and pending Rule changes for Certified Psychological Assistants will be provided. In 2024, the Duty to Warn/Protect statute was updated. Dr. Auble will also give recent developments regarding the EPPP Part 2 (Skills).
Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of this program, participants will be able to:
1.describe recent changes in licensing law to prepare for a new category of licensees and to comply with changes in CE requirements for CPAs and for those who are audited, and
2. compare APA Ethical Principles on confidentiality, record keeping, and fees to the requirements of TN law to ensure compliance.
Target Audience:
This program is open to all KAPA members and other interested mental health professionals who are not members. The content of this presentation is appropriate for mental health professionals educated at the graduate level in psychology, psychiatry, or other mental health related disciplines, as well as graduate students in a mental health related discipline.
Instructional Level:
The material will be appropriate to intermediate levels of practice and knowledge.
Continuing Education:
This program - when attended in its entirety - is available for 1.5 APA approved continuing education credits. With full attendance and completion of a Program Evaluation and Learning Assessment, a certificate will be issued. Partial credit will not be awarded. Participant's attendance will be verified via their Zoom login name and sign in / sign off time. Please assure that you are identifiable by your Zoom login name.

Speaker Information:
Dr. Auble is a forensic clinical neuropsychologist who is board certified by ABPP. Her work is at the intersection of the law and psychology, and her avocation is the statutes and rules which govern psychology practice in Tennessee. She was a practicing psychologist representative on the Tennessee Board of Examiners from 2009-2015. Since 2017, she has been the Board of Examiners’ liaison from TPA. In 2021, Dr. Auble became Director of Professional Affairs for TPA.
